How to Get Deep Sleep and Wake Up Rested

After struggling on and off for over four years, I have finally figured out simple steps that allow me to sleep well at night and wake up refreshed without prescription sleep aids. The following outlines tips that I have worked for me when it comes to falling asleep quicker and getting a deeper, more rejuvenating night of sleep.

Instructions

    • 1
Stick to a routine. Whether you go you typically go to bed late and wake up late or go to bed early and wake up early, you will sleep much better if you stick to the most consistent routine that your schedule allows.
    • 2
Get up and workout in the morning. Just 20-30 minutes of walking, running, biking or lifting weights will help you feel better during the day and tired when night falls.
    • 3
Relaxing activities 20-30 minutes before bed. A hot bath or even sex can do wonders in helping you get to sleep.
    • 4
Avoid naps. I bet they won't make you feel that much better and they could disrupt your sleep that night.
    • 5
Invest in a comfortable mattress in pillow. I have recently made this change and can't believe I didn't do it earlier. You spend a third of your life in bed, don't be cheap with what you are sleeping on.
    • 6
Use a fan to drown out noise and good blinds to block out light. Simple but very effective for avoiding midnight disruptions.
    • 7
Eat something light with carbohydrates. This can work wonders, just a small bowl of cereal with milk does the trick for me. Avoid anything fatty or really high in protein.
